A senior developer from Sucker Punch Productions mocked the death of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
Kirk was shot and killed during a stop on his college tour at Utah Valley University on Wednesday Sept. 10th.
There has been a mountain of support for Kirk, but some in the gaming industry have not been able to bite their tongue since his passing.
One of those people was Drew Harrison, a self-described senior staff character texture and look developer for Sucker Punch Productions.
Sucker Punch Productions is a 27-year-old developer out of Bellevue, Washington, and has created games like Sly Cooper, Infamous, and Ghost of Tsushima.
On Bluesky, a primarily left-wing Twitter/X clone, Harrison said the following:
“I hope the shooter’s name is Mario so that Luigi knows his bro got his back.”
This is in reference to Luigi Mangione, a man accused of shooting a pharmaceutical executive in 2024.
Harrison also shared a post that referred to Kirk as a “transphobic” and “racist bigot.”
That Park Place has reported that Harrison worked on Ghost of Yotei, which is set for release in October, developed by Sucker Punch and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
“DEIDetected laments Kirk’s death,” said founder Kabrutus. “Enough is enough. People need to stop, gaming does not need to be political,” he added.
At the same time, Kotaku and Polygon founder Brian Crecente made a plethora of negative statements about Kirk on both Bluesky and X.
On his Bluesky page, Crecente wrote, “If you are for some reason feeling bad about today’s shooting, you should read this,” and strangely linked to Kirk’s Wikipedia page.
On X, Crecente made a bizarre statement about how Kirk should have staged his own death.
“Ooof, Charlie Kirk’s boys should have used the same team that faked Trump’s shooting. This is what happens when you try to save money on your false flag operations.”

Then, Crecente again cited Kirk’s Wikipedia to claim that the commentator is a “COVID and election denier, and climate change denier.”
“Imagine being upset that” Kirk was “shot,” Crecente said.
Crecente then went back to posting about his own “brainrot” on his Bluesky page.
Harrison continued to post amid increased amounts of support and backlash. Some users claimed they created an account on Bluesky simply to report her to Sony.
In typical fashion, Harrison displayed little knowledge of the issue surrounding Kirk by deflecting the attention with humor and subsequently calling for gun control.
The developer also strangely lists her pronouns as “she/her” along with the acronyms “poly/ENM.” The latter stands for polyamory and ethical non-monogamy, terms adopted by liberals activists in recent years meant to intellectualize having multiple sexual partners while in a relationship.
