In the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, many game developers, journalists, and prominent members of the gaming scene have had some choice words regarding the tragic event that happened on September 10th. While there were some positive things said about the event, there were many others who were either trying to downplay the assassination, celebrate Charlie’s death, or worse: advocate for even more politically-charged violence.
Steam User and Twitter User “KayfabeMediaYT” decided not to take such rhetoric lying down, and has taken it upon himself to create a new Steam Curation group called “CharlieTweetsDetected” which lays out a list of game developers and studios who have openly praised the shooting, or have been pushing for more violence by branding others as “Nazis” and “Fascists”, labels that left-wing extremists typically use to justify more violent actions on those they consider their political enemies.
This initiative, launched by KayfabeMediaYT, has proven to be very successful, as the group has exploded with a ton of followers, reaching nearly 29,000+ users within only a week, and could easily reach 30,000+ users within the next few days.
While I am an advocate for freedom of speech, celebrating political violence or making more calls for violence are something that I, or anyone, should NOT tolerate. The current political landscape of the United States of America is in a very tense moment right now, so everyone should be doing their best to reject this kind of activity, no matter what form it may take. (Not to mention that calls for violence are not protected under the First Amendment, which several left-wing influencers have openly advocated for. For those that have been paying attention, you will know the few that I am referring to.)
As for the list of Steam games on the “CharlieTweetsDetected” curation page, it certainly has helped me, as I had to un-wish list or uninstall several games from my backlog, due to some of the horrific comments made by certain game developers from games that I have either been enjoying today or in the past. This kind of behavior simply cannot be rewarded monetarily and this page has helped me to do my part.

We love it when gamers band together to push back against toxic and destructive views within the gaming scene, so we’re happy to see another Steam Group with the same mission as us pushing forward with great success. Hopefully, more initiatives such as CharlieTweetsDetected will be created, so the gaming scene can finally go back to being a haven for fun and escapism, rather than an outlet for social activism and political revolution.
