A new age for Nintendo of America is about to happen soon, for better or for worse, as it has recently been announced that Doug Bowser, current President for Nintendo of America, will be stepping down from his position as President and COO. It has been stated that Doug Bowser will be retiring this December, and in his press release, he has publicly stated that “Leading Nintendo of America has been the honor of a lifetime, and I am proud of what our team has accomplished in both business results and the experiences we’ve created for consumers.

Devo Pritchard, the one who will succeed Doug Bowser, is currently the Executive Vice President of Revenue, Marketing and Consumer Experience at Nintendo of America, has been with the company for more than 19 years. She was also a big player behind several legal battles for Nintendo, including a Canadian court order in 2017 where a citizen by the name of Jeramie King was forced to pay $12.76 million Canadian dollars to Nintendo.

Many people on social media platforms like X/Twitter have expressed their disapproval for the new President, claiming that she could end up being just another “#GIRLBOSS” figure for the company

“She don’t look old enough to have played any of the vintage NES games. I don’t think she qualifies.”@maietta via X/Twitter

“Well it was fun while it lasted.” -@Mialygosa via X/Twitter

“Bookmark this as the end of Nintendo.” @Lead_Flinger via X/Twitter

However, some users have chosen to remain neutral or hopeful that this new President will do her job well.

“She has worked there for almost 20 years. Why is this automatically a bad thing?”@AClayLamBirdMan – via X/Twitter

“Well, let’s see how this goes, I hope she can fix Nintendo’s problems they are having right now. A Reggie miracle is what we need.” @NanoLeaon3000 via X/Twitter
“Please don’t Kathleen Kennedy Nintendo.”@Orangejoe82 -via X/Twitter
Personally speaking: I do not have an issue with female leadership at any company, as long as they have proven to show true interest in improving the brands that they work for, but too many examples of poor leadership from appointed female leadership in western companies have proven, more often than not, to be blatant DEI hires. While Devon’s credentials in business seem good, her aptitude to understand the current video gaming landscape, as well as understanding gamers in general, seems very questionable. Hopefully, Devon will prove to everyone that she was the right person for the job.
Dude. Gamer. All-around lamer. I'm a freelance writer with seven years of experience, now writing for DEIDetected in my spare time. My favorite genres: Fighting, J-Action, FPS/TPS and some Survival Action.
