Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster
Dead Rising is getting a remaster pretty soon. The game is officially named Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster (a.k.a. DRDR) and is set to release on September 19th.
The "new" title is going to overhaul the graphics and improve the game play, as you would expect, so everything is apparently fine… except for the censorship.
Here's what they’re censoring this time around:
Larry Chiang is a minor antagonist in the game and in his original design, he was a big asian guy who was a psychopath that butches people for their “fresh meat”. In the remaster they are going to race swap him for a white man because Capcom thinks that it is “racist” to have an asian villain.
So let me get this straight… if the villain is asian, it's racist. If the villain is white, it's not racist. Is Capcom saying that white isn't a race? Or just that white people are the only people you can be racist against without blowback? These race swaps always raise very uncomfortable questions about just what the publishers and developers believe about race. And it always ends up making them look way more racist than everyone else.
The game will also completely REMOVE the Erotica tag from photographs taken in-game to earn PP (Prestige Points). The Erotica tag is given when the player manages to capture women’s cleavage or other parts that could be considered sensual, as announced in Capcom's recent press release, and reported on by Famitsu.
The Photo Challenge, which is an in-game mission that asks you to take an Erotica picture, will also be removed from the game. Because nowadays beautiful women are offensive and straight men cannot enjoy them in their games anymore. Capcom also solved sexism!
Do yourself a favor and play the original instead.
