DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake

Dragon Quest is my favorite JRPG franchise. In fact, it is my favorite RPG franchise, period.

So obviously, the remake of the third game of the series, specifically when it’s being made in the HD-2D style popularized by Octopath Traveler (a game which I love) back in 2018, is one of the most exciting things to come out this year for me.

Well, it still is, I'm not going to lie. But sadly, Square Enix has decided to butcher it with censorship, because they decided to listen to stupid (probably westerners too) people this time.

Because these people get pretend-offended by absolutely anything, of course the concept of “Male” and “Female” is a problem for them, right? So this time around, we’ will be smacked in the face right away with a choice between “Body Type A” or “Body Type B”.

Basic human anatomy surely offends them, but of course they don’t worry about how demeaning it actually is for women to call them a “Body Type B”, reducing their feminine characteristics down to some kind of a scientific experiment.

The Ryokutya2089's article also explains that even the jobs (kind of like “classes” if you are coming from other RPGs) will no longer be distinguished within the name of the job. Kind of like calling someone a “congress person” rather than a “congressman”. The sterilization continues.

On a much more personal and nerdier level, and this one really pisses me off, I must say, is the censorship of the Troll's lips.

After 36 years of the game's original release and the Troll's first appearance, Square Enix has finally discovered that his lips are...racist. Yes, this is very likely due to the depiction of black people in those old cartoons. The ones no one even remembers or cares about except upper middle class white women.

For now, that's all the confirmed information we have regarding DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake censorship. I’ll update this article if more evidence shows up in the future.
